GARTHAPALOOZA

Janis Joplin came to our buddy Garth in a dream, convincing him and Wayne to throw GARTHAPALOOZA, a concert to raise money to save their studio. BBQ Films was only too happy to help them produce this epic party. We’re not worthy!

On Friday, July 13, BBQ Films brought Aurora, Illinois’ most shredding club, Gasworks, to life for a night of music, comedy, and full-on ‘90s immersion. In addition to watching the film, more than 300 guests rocked out to our female-led lineup of bands including Hit Like a Girl, Early Riser, and Young Thieves—who played a very convincing Crucial Taunt, Cassandra and all. They also enjoy themed drinks, took photos in the legendary basement set, and did some righteous head banging during a live movie-synced version of Bohemian Rhapsody.

To top it off, Wayne and Garth’s guest of honor for the show was the incredible Calico Cooper (offspring of Milwaukee expert, Alice Cooper)! Not only did she entertain some special guests backstage alongside a very convincing Alice lookalike, but she saved the show after The Shitty Beatles decided not to show up (they suck!) and brought the house down with her cover of Feed My Frankenstein. Way!

As a mega bonus, a portion of ticket proceeds was donated to the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a nonprofit music education and mentoring program that empowers girls, women and/or gender non-binary folks through arts and music.
